Instacart Celebrates Asian and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Gwyn Alda Sera

"Instacart’s Asians@ ERG has enabled me to not only meet new people and build valuable connections, but also allowed me the opportunity to learn more about the ANHPI community. Asians, as a race, is multi-cultural on its own and even though I identify as one, there’s still so much to learn. The first event that I helped plan and organize was our Diwali celebration and even though I don’t identify as South Asian, I learned a lot about the celebration and was given the chance to make it my own. Apart from the learning, I am also able to educate others and are empowered to drive away that mentality that separates each subculture from each other in the hopes to form one unified Asian community through the ERG.

I became a Pillar Lead at a time where hate crimes against the ANHPI community were high and I was able to provide a safe space for the community by piloting our #ShareTheTea Sessions during the Mental Health Awareness month and we aimed at tackling “Identity-” what it means to grow up Asian and be Asian in a competitive, modern world. Hearing what all Asians@ member said in that session made me feel that I was not alone and I’m comforted that I’m able to provide the same support to others who, like me, may have felt that they were. It’s a very enriching experience."
