Why is it important to celebrate Black History Month?

Rasheed: Black History Month is a celebration of the myriad ways in which Black people continue to make history by enhancing – through trial and triumph – the social, political, economic and artistic fabric of our nation and the world. The resilience, tenacity and fortitude exhibited by Black people across the world, past and present, serves not only as an important model, but as a reminder that we all have a part to play in continuing to create a more just and equitable society.

How do you plan on celebrating Black History Month?

Rasheed: As a current resident of Washington, D.C., I plan to commemorate this month by visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which I highly recommend for anyone visiting the nation’s capital. I also plan to patronize some of my favorite local Black-owned restaurants and retail establishments to support the Black change makers in my community. "
